The History of UMM

Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) was founded in 1964, on the initiative of figures and Leaders of Muhammadiyah Malang Area. At the beginning of the establishment of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang is a branch of University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta, which was established by the Foundation College of Muhammadiyah Jakarta with a Notarized Certificate r. Sihojo Wongsowidjojo in Jakarta No. 71 tang-gal June 19, 1963.

At that time, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang has three (3) Faculty, namely (1) Faculty of Economics, Faculty of law (2), and (3) Faculty of teacher training and Education Science (FKIP) major in religious education. Third faculty received the status listed from Department of education and culture, the Directorate General of higher education in 1966 by Decree No. 68/B-Swt/p/dated 30 December 1966, 1966.

On July 1, 1968 the University of Muhammadiyah Malang officially became a University in its own right (apart from the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta), which is in the hands of the College Foundation of Muhammadiyah Malang, with Notarized Certificate r. Sudiono, no. 2, dated 1 July 1968. On the development of the next certificate is then updated with the Notarized Certificate g. Kamarudzaman No. 7 on 6 June 1975, and updated again with a Notarized Certificate Kumalasari, S.H. No. 026 on 24 November 1988 and is listed on the Court’s Unfortunate Affairs No. 88/PP/YYS/XI/1988 on 28 November 1988.

In 1968, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang add new faculty, the Faculty of social welfare which is fi’lial from the Faculty of social welfare, University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta. Thus, at the moment it has Unfortunate Universitas Muhammadiyah has four faculties. In addition, the Department of religious education FKIP enlisted as a Faculty of religion that are within the auspices of the Ministry of Religion under the name Faculty of Tarbiyah.

In 1970, the Faculty of Tarbiyah Gets the same status with Colleges Islam Negeri (IAIN), by Decree Number 50 Religious Minister in 1970. In this year also the Faculty of social welfare changed its name to Faculty of social sciences with the Social Welfare Department. Then in 1975 the Faculty of it’s official stand on its own (separate from the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta) with Registered Number 022 Decision Letter A/1/1975 on 16 April 1975.

The Faculty is the Faculty of engineering is then added in 1977. In 1980 opened also the Faculty of agriculture, then following the Faculty of animal husbandry. Between 1983 and 1993, added the various course new and upgraded the status of the various course suudah. The latter, in 1993 the University of Muhammadiyah Malang opened the Graduate School of management master’s degree Courses and the master of Rural Sociology

Until the academic year 1994/1995, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang has 9 faculties and 25 majors/programs of study, a two-level strata The strata-S2 course, and one Nursing/strata-D3 Academy.

In the span of thirty years of this journey UMM (1964-1994), the development of the most mean started in 1983. from that point onwards UMM noted the development of a very impressive, whether unaccompanied in the field of improvement of the status of the Department, in addition to the means of administration, management and campus facilities, as well as additions and improvements in the quality of its administrators power (Administration and academic). In 2009, UMM combines the Faculty of agriculture and the Faculty of animal husbandry-Fisheries became the Faculty of agriculture and animal husbandry to fit with the consortium of Agricultural Sciences.

In the field of means of physical and academic facilities, have now been available three campuses: the campus I in Bandung Street no. 1, Campus II in Dam Street no. Sutami 188a, and Campus III (Integrated Campus) on the highway is Tlogo Mas. In the field of improving the quantity and quality of academics, have been made (1) 28, penerimaan young lecturers who come from a variety of the leading universities in Java Island, (2) Improved the quality of their lecturers by sending them for further studies (S2 and S3) both inside and outside the country.

Thanks to the struggle that knows no stopping it, now the University of Muhammadiyah Malang was incarnated in the direction of college alternative. This has been recognised and licensed by Kopertis Region VII a Coordinator in his official speech at graduation degree in Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang on 11 July 1992, argued that UMM belongs to a great College and berprospek College to be the future.

With the condition that stoped, now University of Muhammadiyah Malang proudly but humbly ready to face the future, to participate in joint task “educate the nation’s life” and “building the human whole” in Indonesia to be a dignified nation Indonesia and aligned with other peoples in the world.
